- WARRANTY OVERVIEW
Universal Belts warrants that every power transmission belt sold under the Universal brand is free from defects in materials and workmanship. This warranty applies from the date of purchase and remains valid for up to 100,000 KM of operation or the product’s published service life, whichever occurs first, provided the belt is installed and used in accordance with Universal’s specifications.

- WHAT IS COVERED

The following defects and failures are covered under this warranty when they occur under normal operating conditions within the warranty period:
2.1 Manufacturing Defects |
- Delamination or separation of belt layers (fabric from rubber compound)
- Uneven belt thickness or width measured across the belt’s running length
- Cracks, splits, or fractures present at or shortly after installation
- Internal tension cord breakage not caused by external overload
- Missing, malformed, or incorrectly spaced teeth on synchronous / toothed belts
- Belt width or length outside published manufacturing tolerances
- Premature hardening, cracking, or brittleness of rubber compound under normal operating temperature ranges
- Belt elongation (permanent stretch) exceeding the manufacturer’s specified tolerance within the rated service life
- Abnormal surface wear not attributable to drive system problems (misalignment, contamination, incorrect tension)
- Cover rubber peeling or separating from tension cords without external cause
2.3 Structural Integrity Failures |
- Belt failure under loads, speeds, and temperatures within the rated specification published by Universal Belts
- Edge fraying not caused by pulley misalignment or housing contact
- Cord exposure or breakout not caused by external mechanical damage
- WHAT IS NOT COVERED ✘
3.1 Improper Installation |
- Incorrect belt tensioning — both over-tensioning and under-tensioning void the warranty
- Wrong belt size, type, or profile selected for the application
- Installation without following Universal’s published fitting instructions
- Physical damage to the belt caused during installation (prying, excessive force, heat guns, sharp tools)
- Failure to use a belt tension gauge or follow specified tension values
3.2 Misuse & Wrong Application |
- Operating the belt outside its rated speed, load, power, or temperature range
- Using the belt on a drive system it was not designed or sized for
- Running a single belt where the application requires a matched set
- Using the belt in environments with chemical exposure, fluids, or vapors beyond the belt’s material rating
3.3 External Contamination |
- Damage from oil, grease, fuel, coolant, hydraulic fluid, or any chemical contact
- Abrasive particles, grit, or debris entering the drive system and causing accelerated wear
- Moisture ingress in applications not rated for wet or humid environments
3.4 Drive System Faults (Not the Belt) |
- Worn, damaged, corroded, or out-of-specification pulleys, sheaves, or sprockets
- Pulley misalignment — angular, parallel, or combination misalignment
- Seized or worn bearings, idlers, or tensioners creating abnormal belt load
- Incorrect pulley groove profile or pitch diameter for the belt type installed
- Sharp pulley edges or burrs causing belt edge damage
- Gradual surface wear expected over the normal design life of the belt
- Minor belt noise under normal operation conditions
- Slight elongation within the manufacturer’s published tolerance over time
- Belt replacement required as part of a scheduled maintenance interval
3.6 Accidental or External Physical Damage |
- Damage from road debris, stones, or foreign objects striking the belt
- Damage from vehicle accidents, collisions, or impact events
- Cuts, punctures, or burns from tools, surfaces, or heat sources
- Damage caused by rodents, pests, or animals
3.7 Neglect & Lack of Maintenance |
- Continuing to operate with a known faulty tensioner, worn idler, or seized bearing
- Failure to replace the belt at the vehicle or equipment manufacturer’s recommended service interval
- Failure to replace all belts in a matched set when one belt in the set fails
- Operating the drive system without proper guarding, allowing contamination
3.8 Improper Storage Before Installation |
- Belt stored in direct sunlight or near UV-generating sources for extended periods
- Belt stored near heat sources, boilers, or ozone-generating electrical equipment
- Belt stored tightly coiled, kinked, or bent beyond a minimum bend radius
- Belt stored in contact with oils, solvents, or other chemicals prior to installation
3.9 Unauthorized Modifications |
- Belt cut, shortened, spliced, or joined after purchase
- Belt used with non-standard, improvised, or aftermarket pulleys not matched to belt specifications
- Any alteration to the belt’s structure or composition
- HOW TO MAKE A WARRANTY CLAIM
To submit a warranty claim, the customer must provide:
- Completed warranty registration (via QR code on packaging or online portal)
- Original proof of purchase (invoice or receipt)
- Photographs of the failed belt clearly showing the defect
- Description of the vehicle or equipment, application, and operating conditions
- The defective belt (may be required for inspection upon request)
- LIMITATIONS & GENERAL TERMS
- This warranty is limited to the replacement of the defective belt or a credit equal to the original purchase price. Universal Belts is not liable for labor costs, consequential damages, loss of use, or any other indirect losses.
- This warranty is non-transferable and applies to the original purchaser only.
- Warranty coverage is void if the belt is used in any application other than its intended purpose.
